KSP, BvonB,Dentist,Books & Boerewors & Beehive!

Shoowee, what a day!  Talk about time management (priority juggling)- yesterday was a scheduled to the 'T' fun filled day.  Usually my days are like all other working mom's (or are they?) but yesterday I do believe I performed my roles fantastically.  Mommy, husband's PA, housekeeper, mommy, friend, mommy, mommy, nurse, mommy and housekeeper to end off. Not too shabby.

P & S had their bi-yearly trip to the dentist.  Of course N & J came along for the entertainment.  My, do those girls know how to put on a show! I should have charged the other patients an entrance fee when they arrived in the waiting room.  (I heard the dentist apologizing to another patient in between P's extraction & S's oral sedation).  A comedy of errors.  There are many moments in my life that I often feel like I need a camera crew to capture the insanity, and then be given the opportunity to go back with a psychologist reviewing the event and ask, "Now tell me, is that normal?".  Cos you know, when you try explain a moment in your life, you never can really get all the details in, can you?  And I just don't think that's very fair. I think we need all the evidence we can get to substantiate the grey hairs, the dark rimmed eyes, the funny twitches that develop.  I'd like some hard eveidence,  Yes siree.

It's nearing the end of the 1st school term for us.  And since all 4 children are now enrolled full time, I've had the pleasure of having 4 "This is your child" reviews (parent/teacher interviews).  I find these to be a very honest & open platform, and have to say that teachers are just such grand people.  The back bone of our societies, and really inexpensive shrinks.  Yesterday's interview just topped them all. J's teacher sat and described the perfect child to me, a real little genius of a lad with such a lovely personality - my jaw went slack as I realised who she was describing.  And it dawned on me that I have my very own Jekyll & Hyde. Hmmm, the curious turnings of human behaviour.

And then, at the end of the busy day, S & I are driving along the leafy back roads of Kloof.  It's quiet & I'm feeling a bit relieved that the day is almost finished, S says:

"So mom."
"Yes, my girl?"
"Why did the dentist have to give me a filling?"
"Well, there were all those germs causing problems in your tooth.  So she had to take them out".
"Oh.  So it wasn't a cavity then."

And I realised something.  I really underestimate my kids.  And over-estimate my own genius.  Sigh.
